Got Kicked out of the House

I told my dad straight that I wanted to major in music, and he thought it was just a big joke. So he told me to leave his sight and he kicked me out of the house. I told him I'm still minoring in Computer Science since I have already taken so many Computer Science classes. However, even that is not enough for him. Basically unless I major in Computer Science I have to leave the house.

It will haunt him for the rest of his life because his brother was a serious great pianist and is now a pastor. My dad sees something like that in me I assume and being a pastor or a musician or anything that earns little money compared to a science type of major is very bad psychologically in his mind. I don't know, I'm currently still grounded from singing, piano, and guitar, and he said computer too but I have work on my laptop, so I don't think he can really ground me from doing work.

So yeah...the thing is i don't know what to do now financially. All I know is that I'm going to be moving out soon and supporting myself. Some encouragement would be nice if you have any. Thanks guys.

I even made a PayPal account for donations if somehow someone is rich enough to give me a hand on some of my financial needs.

Late for Work

Have you ever been late for work before? I was 30 minutes late for work today, and I don't exactly know what to say. I guess I'm going to tell my boss the truth, it is a valid reason, but because he caught me being late, I don't know if it will seem genuine or not. Anyways, my parents grounded me from everything for a week (even though I'm 18 almost 19 now) because I didn't put the clothes away yesterday. I did it this morning and they still have me grounded from everything. I didn't really think that was fair so I argued with them....and I would have been at school on time, if it weren't for 2X the traffic.

Any input???

A Moment Like This

I don't know how, but I came across Kelly Clarkson's song "A Moment Like This". I thought the song was beautiful. So in the process of learning the song on piano, I discovered something really cool. I learned how to sing to the piano. I was watching some people playing the piano and singing, and I observed a bit.

Well anyways, it was a major breakthrough for me although you're probably sitting in front of your monitor going what is this guy talking about. Just pay attention to any new videos I post on youtube because you'll understand what I mean only when you see it.

Those of you who have music background, basically I have learned how to play chords with both hands. I normally can only play it with my left hand it always sound awkward when I use both hands to play what my left hand should be doing. So the whole point is now I can sing to the piano.

The reason I learned guitar was so that I could sing to an instrument, but now I have found out I can sing to my piano yay!!

I got a job at my local community college. It pays pretty well. I get $10.75 an hour for scanning id's and helping people with computer problems, make sure there is enough printer paper, some house keeping stuff, etc. It's really not a bad job at all because it is stress-free. ;)

College

College is not as fun as high school because now there's a whole bunch of responsibility, but it's time to move on I guess. As of right now, I'm still undecided of what degree I want to pursue. My parents want me to do Computer Science and I want to do Music. They are trying to convince me that you can't earn money with a Music degree, but I know I won't like my job either if I do Computer Science.

How I Learned Piano

A lot of people say I'm really good at piano and assume I know all about music theory and all. So I thought I might clarify how I actually learned how to play the piano. ;)

During 6th grade I took about 6 months off school to go to Malaysia (where I was born) and learn Chinese (Mandarin) and how to play the piano. At first I got a lot of encouragement from everyone to learn the piano. So I felt wanted to learn piano and grow up to be a performing pianist.

So when I went back to the United States, my dad was excited about my piano and got me a casio keyboard. Then I don't know what happened, I guess I didn't get much encouragement to play the piano, so I lost interest. It just kind of sat there and collected some dust. It sat there for about 2-3 years (I played it once in a while), until I played the video game Final Fantasy 10 (if I remember correctly I playeed the game in 11th grade). I was moved by the song "To Zanarkand" (because it was so sad!). During that same time, I learned about Youtube. I watched a whole bunch of really successful pianists, and I wanted to be just like them. So I took the first step, and I started playing the piano again. I learned "To Zanarkand" and I just went from there.

Unfortunately, I can't read sheet music the way it is (at least without taking a lot of practice). You can almost always guarantee that if you give me sheet music to play, by the time I'm through with it, the song isn't the same as the sheets anymore, and the time signature is wrong and the beat is off and all kinds of stuff, but in the end it still sounds good lol because I play the music the way I interpret it should sound lol. So tell me what you think...
